Acquario di Cattolica

Large tanks of fish and sharks, habitats home to otters, turtles, caimans and penguins: a unique experience for anyone who loves the sea, nature and its creatures.

The Acquario di Cattolica is the largest aquarium on the Adriatic coast. Opened in 2000, it has always been known for its fish and sharks, later joined by other animals such as otters, turtles, caimans and Humboldt penguins. The exhibition is divided into four trails: blue (where visitors meet newts, penguins and sharks on a journey through every sea in the world), yellow (the realm of the otters), green (home to snakes, amphibians, chameleons, iguanas and geckos) and purple (the section devoted to deep-sea fish, including a 13-metre squid).

Good to know

  • The aquarium has a touch pool, home to particularly docile stingrays that visitors can stroke.
  • Some activities are available by booking only, such as “Voci dal Mare”, devoted to the coral reef, and “Dietro le quinte”, which shows how the fish are cared for. Up-to-date information is available on the aquarium's website (https://www.acquariodicattolica.it).

Conformance status

The site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. Conformance is partial: the checks made so far cover the code and the colours, and they do not replace testing with people who rely on assistive technology. Known limits are listed below.

How this statement was prepared

Self-assessment by the people who build the site, last updated on 1 September 2026. This is not the statement that the Italian AgID guidelines require of public bodies, which Romagna.net is not: it is a commitment we make anyway.
