Castello Malatestiano di Coriano

Although there is no documentary proof, the construction of the Castello Malatestiano di Coriano is thought to date back to the 1300s. The Malatesta family held it throughout the 1400s and made several changes to strengthen it: building a new defensive wall, towers, a moat and ramparts.
Until the 1500s the castle served its defensive purpose; afterwards it was left to decay and was partly destroyed during the World Wars.

Good to know

  • The castle has recently undergone restoration works that brought the old moat back to light.
  • The defensive wall, the gates (inner and outer) and the tower are particularly striking.
  • The castle did not originally belong to the Lords of Rimini but to the diocese of Ravenna, which handed it over to the Malatesta family only in 1356.

Accessibility statement

Romagna.net should be usable by anyone, with any tool: keyboard, screen reader, magnification, phone. This page says where we actually stand, without rounding up.

Conformance status

The site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. Conformance is partial: the checks made so far cover the code and the colours, and they do not replace testing with people who rely on assistive technology. Known limits are listed below.

How this statement was prepared

Self-assessment by the people who build the site, last updated on 1 September 2026. This is not the statement that the Italian AgID guidelines require of public bodies, which Romagna.net is not: it is a commitment we make anyway.
