Province of Forlì-Cesena

Until 1992 it also took in the territory of the province of Rimini, which it now borders to the south, and it brings together the areas of the two large cities of Forlì and Cesena. It borders the province of Ravenna to the north and the province of Arezzo and the metropolitan city of Florence to the south west; to the east it is washed by the Adriatic Sea.
The territory is very large, 2,378 square kilometres, divided into the districts of Forlì and Cesena, the mountain communities of the Forlì and Cesena Apennines, and the mountain union "Acquacheta - Romagna Toscana".

Much of the province stretches inland, from the Foreste Casentinesi park in the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines to Forlì and Cesena themselves, cities rich in art and history. There is the small village of Sarsina, with its religious legends, Forlimpopoli, the town of Pellegrino Artusi, a monument of Italian cooking, and San Mauro Pascoli, the town of the poet Giovanni Pascoli.

Although Gatteo, San Mauro and Savignano reach the Adriatic through Gatteo Mare, San Mauro Mare and Savignano Mare, it is Cesenatico that is the seaside town of the province, with the beach typical of the Romagna coast but above all a marked seafaring tradition, including the striking Leonardo harbour dotted with historic boats and their red and ochre sails.
