The Rocca delle Caminate is a historic building in Meldola, set on a ridge 300 m above sea level. Built in Roman times (thought to have started life as a watchtower), it saw its most intensive use during the Renaissance, before being destroyed by an earthquake in 1870. The Rocca delle Caminate's second life began during the Fascist era, when it was restored (as a historical pastiche) and given to Benito Mussolini, who was born nearby in Predappio and used it as his summer residence.

Good to know

  • The Fascist-era restoration of the Rocca introduced a powerful searchlight that swept tricolour beams across the sky whenever Mussolini was in residence. The tricolour beams could be seen from 60 km away.
  • This building hosted the first meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Social Republic.
  • The Rocca delle Caminate hosts the historical re-enactment Otto castelli per un palio.

Accessibility statement

Romagna.net should be usable by anyone, with any tool: keyboard, screen reader, magnification, phone. This page says where we actually stand, without rounding up.

Conformance status

The site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. Conformance is partial: the checks made so far cover the code and the colours, and they do not replace testing with people who rely on assistive technology. Known limits are listed below.
