Fortezza di Castrocaro Terme

The Fortezza di Castrocaro Terme is a classic medieval-style castle that once served as a noble stronghold. Built on the highest point of the cliff, it commanded the whole valley below. It consists of three parts: the Rocca, the Cannoniere and the Girone (the oldest section, home to the 32-metre keep). The Rocca includes the entrance gates, the guardhouse, the sentry tower and the inner courtyards.

Good to know

  • The ground floor of the building houses the Museo Storico della Fortezza.
  • The fortress is linked to the legend of Margherita de Conti, a young woman said to have thrown herself from the castle tower on the eve of her wedding.
