Places to see

Museo Storico della Fortezza

The Museo Storico della Fortezza is on the ground floor of the Fortezza di Castrocaro. There are five sections, displaying finds spanning the Etruscan, Roman, Byzantine and Lombard periods, through to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. From paintings to jewellery and maiolica, and weapons, drawings and parchments, the rooms of this old palace piece together the town's history.

Good to know

  • The five sections are: antiquity, the age of the eagle, the keys of the banner, under the sign of the lily, and the mark of the Medici.
  • The history of the Fortezza di Castrocaro has been reconstructed thanks to documents found in the Vatican Secret Archives and other Italian archives.
