Saline di Cervia

The Saline di Cervia, or more properly the Riserva Naturale Salina di Cervia, is a protected area with a unique natural landscape. It lies on the southern edge of the Parco Regionale del Delta del Po and takes in both the industrial saltworks and the old Salina Camillone (an outdoor section of the Musa - Museo del sale), where salt is still extracted using traditional methods.
A striking place, it now appears as a white expanse where only plants and animals able to live in extreme conditions survive, in shallow water with a high salt concentration.

Good to know

• The Salina Camillone is the last of 144 small salt pans where the salt of Cervia used to be collected. In 1959, with the introduction of industrial extraction methods, almost all of them were merged into large collection basins. This is the only one still open, for demonstration purposes.
• Around a hundred species of birds stop, nest and feed here, including the white heron, the flamingo and the mallard.
• The Centro Visite Salina di Cervia is an access point for the Parco Regionale del Delta del Po.
• This salt enriches the thermal water used at the Terme di Cervia.
