Riserva Naturale Bosco di Scardavilla

The Riserva Naturale Orientata Bosco di Scardavilla lies within the territory of Meldola and covers 30 hectares, much of it woodland; another area is home to two old religious settlements, Scardavilla di sopra and Scardavilla di sotto. The wood is made up mainly of oaks, Turkey oaks, medlars and field maples, and is home to animals such as the badger, the beech marten, the porcupine, various reptiles, and specimens of magpie and hoopoe.

Good to know

• Within the Reserve are several trails with information boards that allow for self-guided visits.
• The first settlement here is recorded in 1225. A monastery later passed into the hands of the Camaldolese Monks, who built the current hermitage in the 17th century.
• Scardavilla di sopra and Scardavilla di sotto are linked by an avenue of oaks, from which you can see the remains of the settlements' boundary walls.
