Riccione per il Teatro
Founded in 1947, the Premio Riccione per il Teatro is one of the most respected and highly regarded theatre awards in the Italian arts scene. The competition is open to writers of original stage plays. Every year, Villa Lodi Fè (a historic Art Nouveau villa in Riccione), home to the Associazione Riccione Teatro (which also runs the TTV Festival and La Bella Stagione), receives hundreds of scripts; the winners represent the best of Italian theatre.
Good to know
- At its first edition, alongside the theatre category there was also a literature category, won by Italo Calvino, then a young writer of 24.
- The competition is divided into several sections, including one devoted to dramaturgical innovation.
- Villa Lodi Fè is home to the Archivio-Biblioteca del Teatro Contemporaneo, holding all the scripts that have taken part in the competition over the years.
