Teatro Bonci

The Teatro Bonci in Cesena opened in 1846. From the outset it was a reference point for opera and drama performers from across Italy. The exterior of the Bonci features a wide portico and seven panels, each containing a mythological figure. Inside it has the classic horseshoe shape, with a stalls area, four tiers of boxes and a gallery, for a total of 800 seats. The Teatro Bonci's programme is well known and appreciated by performers and audiences alike.

Good to know

  • The Theatre is dedicated to Alessandro Bonci, a tenor from Cesena.
  • The ceiling decorations are much admired: four scenes from the Divine Comedy, interspersed with as many medallions; in the centre, an imposing chandelier, a copy of the original.
  • The mythological figures on the façade are: Hercules, Calliope, Venus, Apollo, Thalia, Melpomene and Clio.
